The version of gnome-shell for Ubuntu 12 is gnome-shell 3.4. If I'm
not mistaken it is 3.4.1. Although, I'd have to check for the exact
version number.

No. Ubuntu 12.04 already has Gnome 3.4 packages so no need to wait for
Vinux 4.0. You just need to get them out of the Ubuntu 12.04
repository.
