Sorry for the quick follow-up like this. This is rather interesting. If
I press the SPACEBAR to expand the Status Selector and then choose a
status with the ENTER key, then Orca will read the statuses when the
selector is expanded again.

If by highlighted you literally mean highlighted, I'm guessing that you
have the combo box expanded (i.e. so that all the options are shown on
screen at once). In which case the accessible item is a menu and Orca
(by original design) does not allow one to flat-review menus. See the
following bug (which is one option -- but not the only one) I will be
implementing to help alleviate the greyed-out menu item problem:

In the meantime, if you change the selection by not expanding the combo
box first, but just Up/Down Arrowing, does Orca read the combo box as
its value changes?
