Re: [orca-list] Thoughts on restoring NumPad's numeric functionality for Desktop Layout?

+1 for being able to use the keypad for entering numbers if numblock is on.

Hey guys.

So, as part of the refactor and all, I was thinking....

Right now, if you use the Desktop Layout, Orca does a "All your NumPad
are belong to us" and entering numbers is just a no-go. This has always
saddened me because I can enter numbers pretty fast on my NumPad; not so
for the numeric row. Anyhoo.... The exact reason this has been the case
escapes me, but it had something to do with one or more of the
following:

* AT-SPI not giving us the right state
* NumLock being borked
* Solaris and/or Sun keyboards

Today, however, with AT-SPI2, Orca, Fedora 16, etc. it certainly appears
to me that we're getting everything we need to only do flat review if
NumLock is not on. I'd need to do a bit more testing to know for sure,
but given that I'm redoing all this code anyway.... Who wants their
NumPad back when NumPad is locked? A +1/-1 would be handy.

On a related note, we have these "alternative bindings". E.g. KP_5 and
KP_Begin to flat review the current word. If everyone is in favor of
freeing up the numeric capabilities of the NumPad, that raises the
question of what do we need these alternative bindings for? How many
people are using alternative bindings without profiles? For those of you
who are doing so, would profiles be a means for you to easily accomplish
the same thing? (especially if I finally got around to making profiles
quickly switchable via Orca command)

Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks y'all!
