That's got to suck. I like it and I'd be upset if mine did that now.
You did this when? I just downloaded precise over night and installed
it. I ran updates and it's fine. I'll post my lightdm.conf file up
here and maybe that'll shed some light on things.

Hi,
I just did an install of the Precise full release (erased what was on
hd and replaced w/Precise). When the install finished, and the
machine restarted, Lightdm drummed and talked. I did some updates,
and restarted. Never, again, has Lightdm made a sound.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi, folks,
In case it hasn't been announced yet, (I sure didn't know), Lightdm
now speaks in the full release version of Precise. It's really
cool. If you can get it to talk, switching between desktop
experiences is a breeze. It's nice to know that there's a back door
way to do it if it ever stops talking though.

Hi,
Thanks for clearing that up. I honestly got confused myself between
the gnome-classic, gnome-shell, and gnome-session-fallback, types. I
didn't know the differences until you posted the answer here.
Thanks.

Gnome Classic, as used below refers to the classic Gnome 2 interface.
Gnome Fallback is a Gnome 3 interface that appears similar to the
classic Gnome 2 interface. You can read more at:
