Re: [orca-list] Accessible Distros

Doing the following should allow you to install OpenSUSE 12.1:

- Download the GNOME LiveCD (not the DVD--the DVD is QT-based and does not currently have Orca available during the installation).

- Burn/start the cd. Once the CD stops spinning / the desktop is up, press alt-f2, type orca, and press return.

- Go through the setup. Don't bother telling it to log you out at the end, since it won't work, but logging out shouldn't be necessary anyhow.

- Start Orca again.

- Start yast (press alt-f2, type /sbin/YaST2, noting capitalization, and press enter). Note: I've had someone report that YaST is inaccessible after doing this, and I think that I even saw it being inaccessible at the time when I tested, but now I'm not seeing that. It is possible that it takes a bit of time for the GSettings change to propagate after accessibility is enabled, so perhaps try closing and waiting a few seconds before re-opening if you run into this.

- Once yast starts, tab until Live Installer is focused, press enter, and then follow the directions. You should be able to complete the installation from this point, although you'll need to start Orca manually once you reboot and the system is up.

Hello,

Has anyone tried accessing either Fedora (latest version) or OpenSuse
12.1? If so, are they accessible out of the box? How about the
installer?

Secondly, in Ubuntu 12.04, what is the process for logging into and
activating speech after an install with speech? When I boot up I get
no sound or speech even though I had speech during an accessible
install.

Thanks.
