Re: [orca-list] I experience very positive results with new QT Accessibility Bridge related with Skype

Hi Alex,

I here you there. I think the problem is that because qt-atspi
requires a lot of newer packages like the latest atk, at-spi2-core,
at-spi2-atk, QT 4.8, etc you have to upgrade or recompile a number of
dependencies to get it to work. Even though Ubuntu 11.04 is only six
months old it is still using Gnome 2.32, and the dependencies required
for qt-atspi are Gnome 3.x from what I can see. So based on what I'm
reading from the full dependency list something like the latest Arch
or Ubuntu 11.10 is required for the minimum stable versions of the
requirements for qt-atspi. That's why I'm falling flat on my butt
trying to get it to work. I'm pretty sure by next spring everything
will be less painful as many of the required dependencies will be
picked up by a number of distributions as Gnome 3.x and newer
accessibility packages become more mainstream.

Yeah, I tried it myself a few months back and got nowhere. I did give
up. Time's limited these days. I'll probably pick it up again when
it's in beta testing or maybe not even till there's an rc ready. I
wish just getting it to work wasn't such a painful, long drawn out
process. There's just *got* to be an easier way. Glad it's worked
for some folks. I was very eager to try qt-at-spi out. I don't do
Skype but I'm keenly interested in Rosegarden.

Hi Attila,

Mind giving us a detailed description how you got the Qt accessibility
up and working? I've been working at this for two weeks and am getting
nowhere real fast. I followed all the docs to the letter, compiled
everything, set the proper flags, and zip. None of the test
applications that come with qt-atspi or the Qt based apps I have
installed on Ubuntu 11.04 talk. Orca just sees a blank screen. Its
driving me a bit nuts, and I've all but given up on Qt/KDE
accessibility at the moment because I'm not getting anywhere. Some
advice as to why my qt accessibility is busted would help.

Thanks.
