Re: [orca-list] Firefox text fields

This is really interesting. Here is what happens for me:

UNDER UBUNTU 11.10 (fresh install):
1. Orca does not echo key presses within text areas, either in forms on a Web site or in areas such as the location and search areas of the navigation toolbar.
2. When creating a new e-mail in Thunderbird, fields such as The recipient lines (To, Cc, Bcc) as well as the subject line are not do not have key press feedback.

UNDER LINUX MINT 11:
1. The same bug noted above for Firefox persists under Firefox 7.0.1.
2. The Thunderbird bug does not exist.

My Linux Mint system currently has Firefox 7.0.1, Thunderbird 3.1.15, and Orca 3.0.0 installed.

I downloaded an earlier version of Firefox (in the 3.6 series) which I plan to test with Orca as time permits.

I am not familiar with the process of producing a debug.out file, but I will look it up in the Orca manual and try to provide one. Hopefully I will get some time to test these different things out today. I really like learning the process of testing for bugs, but I am still quite a novice so please forgive my ignorance in any area.

Take care.

I am experiencing the same thing on Ubuntu 11.10. I am having similar reading issues when writing e-mails in Thunderbird.

Hope somebody finds a fix soon!

I would agree the situation has become worse, and that it seems to be
related to a Firefox update. I get no characters or words echoed as I
type into an entry field in Firefox. It used to be just the case that I
didn't get any feedback when pressing the backspace key, but now I don't
hear anything when typing anything into an entry field. I can review
what I     typed using the cursor keys, including control+arrow to move by
word. Note that I'm running Firefox 7.0.1 and Orca 3.1.9-xdesktop on
Vinux 3.2.1 (Ubuntu 11.04).

As of Firefox 7 (and I'm not sure when the bug was introduced), characters
typed into text fields are not presented either in braille or speech unless
one uses the cursor keys to move around in the text field.

Can others reproduce this? I know there are already associated Mozilla bugs
regarding backspace, but the situation appears to be worse now - I can't read
what I type into any text field, as far as I can determine.
