Re: [orca-list] problems with the punctuation settings

Hi,

I think I have reported related problems (with global) punctuation) some
days ago.
I am not using ubuntu so I feel I can't provide useful feedback for the
developers because they decided to use ubuntu where this problem seems
not happening.

However I think the problem is in the new configuration backends.
The different levels of punctuation were not saved correctly
at least on my machine under gentoo using gnome 2.32.

have a look to settings.py:
PUNCTUATION_STYLE_NONE = 3
PUNCTUATION_STYLE_SOME = 2
PUNCTUATION_STYLE_MOST = 1
PUNCTUATION_STYLE_ALL  = 0

When I change punctuation from all which should be 0 to none which is 3,
orca saves 0 not 3.

 can't understand why this problem doesn't occour in ubuntu as well.

BTW.: In my opinion ubuntu shouldn't be used for a11y development.
 They are mixing too much gnome packages in their distro from diferent
 gnome releases.
 This is the reason why nobody got the gnome-panel + gnome-settings
 issue in gnome-2.32.
 This is due to the fact that ubuntu used an old gnome-panel release
 2.30 to avoid this problem.
In my opinion a distributor should try to fix such errors and should not
use dirty hacks.
If orca at-spi and other a11y related projects only test in ubuntu this
might end in more buggy releases in the future.
It wouldn't be a surprise for me when ubuntu ecides to ship corba based at-spi
for gnome 3.

Just My two cents.
Halim
