There already exists a distro called kubuntu(Ubuntu with KDE).  Soon,
there will be Gubuntu(Ubuntu with Gnome as default).   Just wait.

But perhaps that doesn't solve the larger problem, of Ubuntu breaking
every time there is a major release.  This is why I have chosen to use
Arch.  Because with rolling releases, as long as you update weekly, the
chance of a major release coming along and breaking everything is
lowish(though it did happen for me when gnome3 came out, and when
python3 came out too for that matter).
