Re: [orca-list] Open suse latest version with orca? Setting up orca on live cd? And accessible installer?

Hello, Mike.

When I worked with Orca on a Linux Mint live session as well as a Fedora 16 live session, the terminal window closed before I could enter 'y' for the question "Do you want to log out now?" I had to manually log out. I'm not sure why the terminal window closed unexpectedly as it did. I do not know if this is the same thing which you are encountering, but I just wanted to share my experience in case it is.

Ugh! I thought I'd tested and been able to install either 12.1 or a beta of it, but I could be misremembering. Anyway, I just tested and couldn't get _any_ applications to appear accessible, except Orca. I'm wondering if the user needs to log out and back in and Orca doesn't actually log the user out. I'll test more when I'm back home (I'm out of town until Thursday).

There is a major design flaw in this whole lime installer they use.
Following the steps below gives me an inaccessible installer because the
installer requires root permissions. Orca is ran as the temp user "linux". Somehow, a11y needs to be enabled for linux to access admin apps. This was the same problem in Ubuntu 11.10 and earlier where people could not access
synaptic and stuff like that.

1. Start the live CD [no beep was heard]
2. Wait about 30 seconds for gnome 3 to load.
3. Press alt+f2
4. Type orca and press ENTER
5. Go through the setup wizard [no need to sign in again when it closes]
6. Start orca again.
7. Start yast
A. From the applications menu (applications>system tools>yast>lime
installer) - inaccessible
B. From the run box [alt+f2] (/sbin/yast2) - inaccessible
C. The terminal (/sbin/yast {or} /sbin/yast2) - readable, but scrambled
because it is terminal based.

Unless there are any other ideas, looks like this one is a dead duck.

Hi Trey,

OpenSUSE 12.1 has GNOME 3.2.1, so for the most part it is about as
accessible as GNOME 3.2 is in general.

I'd suggest using the GNOME LiveCD rather than the DVD if you want to
install it (the installer on the DVD is QT-based). It is possible to install
via yast from the GNOME LiveCD. Doing the following should work:

- You should get a beep at the boot prompt. Press enter, or wait a few
seconds.

- Wait for the CD to stop spinning.

- Press alt-f2. Type orca. Press enter. At this point Orca should start up and bring up the setup dialog. When it exits, I *think* it iwll log you out and back in. In any case, you should be able to press alt-f2, orca, enter
again, and Orca will start up normally.

- Start yast. I'd recommend typing alt-f2, /sbin/YaST2, enter (note case on YaST2). You should then be able to tab to "install" and press enter, and the
installer should speak.

Setting "automatic login" on the screen where you choose your username and
password might be useful.

In any case, you'll need to start Orca similarly once you restart your
system.
