I don't believe you can read formatted PDF documents with Open Office.
You can save documents as PDF files, but I don't think you can go the
other way. I just tried to open a PDF document with Libre Office and I
just got the underlying PDF source code displayed.

have much experience with that, but the time I looked at the openoffece
gnome interface, it looked more or less fine, meaning even I could
