True enough, the checkboxes could be toggled with a shortcut but it
would still take another keypress of the OK button to force out the
dialog; but now we're down to counting individual keypresses to
accomplish a task. anyway, like I've said before, this links list
deal could become a mini subsystem with optional filters and the like
but the original patch may be a good beginning.

You could still tie each checkbox to a certain accelerator hotkey
and get the same functionality with one keypress. Unless I'm too
chronicly sleep deprived and have forgotten that checkboxes can't
have accelerator keys for some reason??? I only just now realized
that the default action on this list is to reply to sender instead
of reply to list so it's possible. *grin*

That does bring up a different flexibility for sure. the idea of
single buttons or separate hot keys wouldn't offer this. My original
response was addressing particularly the idea of a separate hot key
for each type list. The checkboxes would necessitate one tabbing
through the thing to select the type of items to filter. Hum, sounds
like this could be addressed in several different ways.

May I suggest checkboxes vs. buttons, so you could mix and match
elements types being shown, I.E. display more than one type but not
all elements. It'd be niche usage to be sure, but if it only comes
down to picking one UI control type Vs. another, why not?

In JAWS you select what you want with JAWS+F5 (form fields), JAWS+F6
(links) or JAWS+F7 (headings) and then you can select an entry. That is
easier and clearer than the version of NVDA.
I really don't know what's better to use. Three different lists, or a
single list with 'sections'.
I could split the current list into four. All item, links, form fields
and headings. But, is this really necessary?
I wouldn't think so. If we begin using separate hot keys to pop up
different list types and this filtering was to be expanded, you can
see how quickly precious screen reader hot keys could be used up. I
would think either the current proposed tree view approach would be
good or maybe a dialog with 3 or 4 buttons where they could be pushed
by typing the appropriate shortcut key. Thus, you would have a
maximum of two keystrokes to press to invoke the desired list of
filtered links. In fact as I think about this, I like this idea best.
