Re: [orca-list] Odd behavior with restarting Orca

I have an idea about this. Let me take a look and see about a patch for
y'all to try.

Take care.

Hi.
No, i am not using speech-dispatcher. For while I am using open-tts.

I think that I found a way to reproduce, at least in my machine.

1. Go to a terminal session.

2. kill at-spi-registryd executing:
killall at-spi-registryd
You'll here good bye.

3. Try to restart orca.
Nothing happens.
Previously orca was restarted normally.

4. If you hav a previous version of orca installed try to execute that
version using the --replace flag.
Surprisingly the new version of the orca is initiated.

Resuming:
Step 1:
After kill at-spi-registryd if I call the new version of orca, it does
not start.

Step 2:
If I call an old version of orca after execute step 1, the new version
of orca is started.

This is 100% reproducible in my environment.
thanks.

Hi.
Basically what you have described is what is happening to me too.
I am not sure if orca is eating a lot of cpu cycles.
Thanks.

Maybe it fits in to this topic.
When I have some problem and orca freezes, I kill Xserver by
ctrl-alt-backspace.
Normally, It would prompt me for login and I could continue fairly well.
Now when I login again, orca won't start and it starts to eat lot of cpu
cycles and I can't even kill it. Only solution is go to console and do
sudo reboot.
I will download latest git version, but that happened after I downloaded
from git yesterday. It was my first git download, because in vinux orca
is still 2.31.6, I think and I wanted to try that notification thing.
But I can't find keyboard shortcuts for it.
So maybe new git download will fix this.

killall orca should work, however. You'll need to be either logged in

user that invoked Orca, or as root.
True enough; I just liked 'orca -q' as that option came available some
time back and generally always worked. Yes, that kill command has
come in realy handy for me and I don't even own a gun<smile>.
