That's sad.
I wanted it for the program virtual keyboard, it allows you to play on
your computer keyboard. And it's using jack.
Never mind. Please if someone knows about any hack, contact me.

Really I don't know any workaround for this at present. I did this
test on my laptop and several times it produces errors and Ardour does
not even start. In order to go further, I have a desktop with two
sound cards. There, I've tested Linux Ubuntu 10.04, installed Ardour
and I was able to setup Jack, start Ardour and make some experiments
with it. Pulseaudio was using my on-board sound card and Jack my Delta
Audiophile 2496 with ALSA drivers. Its performance is really, great.

That's bad. I have only one card in my laptop and I'm not going to
buy another.
Isn't there any way to circumwent this?

Remember, jack requires exclusive access to your sound card, so it's
a briliant idea having two cards, one dedicated to the system's
general use (probably an on-board card) and another for jack
applications, such as Ardour.
Through Ardour, and with this setup in mind, it is possible to
configure jack using GUI, otheerwise 'jackd' (the console app) is
the best alternative to play with. And Ardour always starts a jack
session everytime you run it, so you don't need to start jackd
manually (unless I'm missing something). So to play around with jack
via console, just type jackd and make some tests, or for a quick
start type jackd --help.

Can't you start it from the terminal? Its supposed to be started for
each user wishing to use it.

Hello,
Is there actually any way of using jack in ubuntu? qjack-ctl is in
qt,
so it's no use for me.
I tried to do something with jacknetsourcegui, that should be in gtk,
but I can't find any way of actually starting it.
I would like to connect some applications to jack like ardour or
virtual keyboard.
Can you help me please?
Thank you,
