Re: [orca-list] OpenOffice.org writer closes inexpectedly

I think I only had one incident where I had Openoffice locked up like
that. Seems to me I could not restart any OO program until I tracked
down the soffice.bin and killed it like you did. These recent events
didn't result in a loss like that.

I need to find out where OO bugs are filed because I have another
issue with their c.4 devel M93 version throwing errors whenever I open
a .rtf document. As soon as I backed down to M92, RTF documents began
to read again. So if I can find out where to open bugs for
OpenOffice, I'll go over there and file it. That isn't in the gnome
bugzilla, is it?

Hi all

I haven't found the report.. in the mean while I have opened bug 635604
to track this... may be a duplicate.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=635604

Another issue is when I try to close openoffice it hangs and I have to
kill soffice.bin process. The same is when I try to copy and paste some
text.

Hello,
Firstly yes I agree its not an ubuntu specific problem, therefore I
would say upstream bug reports should be used instead of ubuntu ones. I
seem to remember this is a fairly long standing issue with orca and have
a feeling there is an orca bug open on it.

Now my take on who might be the culprit of the crash. Well I am certain
the fact orca (may be other accessibility tools would be valid but we're
dealing with orca so I will limit it to that here) is running is causing
the problem to occur. I get it with the current stable version of
openoffice and if this number of crashes were to happen without
accessibility tools I really don't think it would be accepted and so
would not be the stable release. However is it to be orca to be fixed, I
am not sure it is, there has been cases with eclipse where the bug was
in eclipse on how it did some of the accessibility stuff for certain
queries from orca and those lead to a crash, and this feels a similar
situation. So I would possibly make the guess that openoffice has the
bug but its orca causing it to be revealed.

I'll see if I can find the orca bug on this and see if there is a
corresponding openoffice bug report.

This is not unique to Ubuntu either. I have this same problem with
OpenOffice 3.4 devel M93 version. I'm not exactly sure what is
causing it but I seemed to notice it most after pressing arrow keys to
navigate around in the document. I haven't had any problems with Calc
but only with Writer. It just shuts down and I haven't seen any
errors any place so can't determine how I could post a bug on it. I
would tend to think this not being Orca related.

Hi.
Confirmed as described.

At least for me, this is not new in 10.10.
I found the same problem in 10.04.

Hi all

In Ubuntu 10.10 with Orca 2.32.0 and OpenOffice.org 3.2
I have noted that OOo closes so often working with a document.
The problem is while I am reading the document with arrow keys, pressing
control + home...

I have run oowriter from a terminal and I can see various warning
messages about exceptions on get_text_at_ofset and get_run_attributes
functions.
Currently I don't know if this is cause accessibility related bug or an
OOo bug... So if anyone has experimented this problem please let it
know.
Perhaps is a bad configuration on my system but is very anoying issue!
