[orca-list] Fwd: FCC Releases Public Notice Seeking Comment on Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program

FYI - in case any FOSS accessibility users want to share their thoughts with the FCC as to how to best distribute "specialized customer premises communications equipment" (which we might call AT hardware and software in IT parlance) to people who are deaf-blind in the US.  This is part of a mandate in the new 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010, signed into law last month.

Today, November 3, 2010, the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau of the FCC released a Public Notice seeking comment on the best way to implement a national program that will distribute specialized customer premises communications equipment to individuals who are deaf-blind.   This Public Notice is being released to implement a mandate in the newly enacted 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act, which requires rules on this issue within 6 months.

We encourage you to file comments in this proceeding, and ask that you note carefully the short comment deadlines, which are needed to comply with the very tight schedule established by the 21st Century Act.

The Comment due date is November 17, 2010 and the Reply Comment due date is November 23, 2010.
