Did you remember to add speakup and speakup_soft to the modules array?
In /etc/rc.conf the line:
MODULES=()
should become:
MODULES=(speakup speakup_soft)
I have assumed that you haven't got to specify any other modules, it may
have other modules in the array if you needed to specify others.

Hi,
My Arch isntallation is running fine and the sound is working but I am not able to run speakup.
in /etc/rc.conf under the deamons section I have put alsa and espeakup but no luck.
If I type
/etc/rc.d/espeakup start I am getting the following message:
Unable to open the softsynth device:
No such file or directory
Any ideas?
I installed espeakup and speakup through pacman and now using BRLTTy so no problems, but would like to get
this working.
Many thanks,
Christian
