Hey all, thanks for the various suggestions. For the moment, I'm opting 
for the Rhythmbox/Gpodder combination, as my only real gripes with RB at 
the moment are podcasting related.

I also tried out Exaile as per another suggestion. It was quite 
accessible and featured some interesting plugins, but its podcasting 
support seemed limited to streaming rather than downloading--at least, 
so it appeared based on my examination of the plugin's source. Since I 
want them downloaded, this was not acceptable.

Anyhow, thought this thread and my results may be of interest for anyone 
looking for an accessible music/podcasting solution but frustrated by 
Rhythmbox's non-deterministic podcatcher. :)
