When I installed Vinux, there was also no sound. In my case, I hadsighted assistance. See if the volume is all the way down in the gnomepanel, last icon. If so, have someone help you out and have it set to65535. Either that or use Orca Key+pageup a few times until you hearspeech. Hope this helps. The Orca key is the number 0 on your numpad.
