Re: [orca-list] Trouble setting up speech-dispatcher with orca

Zach,

I recall hearing of spd_config or whatever but I never used it. I
just installed speech dispatcher as an arch package and configured the
files by hand to get espeak going. I can't remember if the defaults
with no changes would yield espeak speech or not. Maybe I better
figure this out for sure to carry on being the package maintainer in
AUR. I would also like to look into pulse integration and testing in
case Arch decides to go with pulse as a default some day. In which
case, I will construct a speech-dispatcher-git package supporting
this. I just haven't made it a huge priority since I have a SB live
multi channel sound card here.

If what you're doing is still on an Arch box, feel free to get me off
list as this would become an off-topic thread for sure.

Hi All,
I'm trying to set up speech-dispatcher 0.67 with orca, in order to
future-proof my Gnome installation. I'm running into a problem with the
spd-conf program.
There is a line buried somewhere in the python package for
speechd_config which imports an apparently non-existent module named
"paths". Whenever I run spd-conf I get a traceback immediately without
any questions being asked.
Is this an artifact of the Gentoo package I'm using? Speech-dispatcher
seems to work fine as a system-wide service, but I was wanting to try
experimenting with pulseaudio and thus needed a single-user setup.
Any advice would be appreciated. Am I better off asking on freebsoft's
lists directly?
Thanks much,
Zack.
