Hi Joanie and all.
I can reproduce the problem using thunderbird 3.1.2.

Try the following:
1. Send a message to yourself with the following in the body.

Before link:
http://www.google.com
after link

2. After receive the message, try to read the entire content.
At least for me Orca stops when find the link http://www.google.com
