Re: [orca-list] revisiting the issue of unbound keybindings

Hi,

Lots of good points in this thread.

I agree with Storm about Firefox, we should attach keys to the Firefox
quick nav keys for checkboxes/edits/forms etc. People migrating from
other screen access programs can start browsing the web without having
to customize their keystrokes. With that said, it's easy enough to
change a keystroke if a user doesn't like it.

About having keys bound to everything including magnification, that's
a lot of keystrokes. I think if this were to be done, toggling the
magnifyer should be a really purposeful keystroke, like orca-shift-f4,
or something really deliberate that won't get in the way of other
keystrokes until the user changes/disables them.
I personally remove gnome-mag and any dependencies that sneak in so I
can't comment on other functions to bind to keys in magnification.

changing punctuation level on the fly would be awesome. There's times
where I'll be in gnome-terminal and want to hear all the slashes and
dashes, but other times I'll be reading an article and want no
punctuation.

I think I favor the present approach of leaving a number of the keys
unbound. It just needs to be made clear or reminded that these extra
functions are available.

One such example of why I would oppose more assignments is the recent
suggestion of setting keys to some magnifier functions. I personally
don't use magnification nor Braille so would just soon have more keys
available for other stuff like changing voice rate and punctuation
levels. Actually, I don't remember seeing a punctuation level in the
unbound list. If it isn't really there, how hard would it be to
insert that. I can see a number of times where I would like to rotor
through punctuation levels on the fly on many occasions.

Hey Rudolf.

BTW: Is there the possibility to bind featues to mouse events - like
orca-key+wheel up/down to set magnification level or orca-key+middle
button to turn on/off magnification?

I agree that being able to change the punctuation level on the fly would
be a very good thing, and was going to ask if there was a way to do
that. I'm not asking that a key be chosen, only that this is among the
things for which I might create keystrokes.
