Hi Dave:

I'm not experiencing the OOo hang on my OpenSolaris 2008.11 b108 machine 
with OpenOffice 3.0.  I'm not sure what might be causing the problems 
you are seeing.  It might be older bits.  Can you upgrade to Orca 
v2.24.4?  Orca v2.24.4 is a maintenance release meant to be compatible 
with GNOME 2.24.  If it's not available on Ubuntu yet, you might need to 
send them a feature request.
