Re: [orca-list] Orca and Java on mobile devices

Lulu-Ann,

Sorry for the delay in replying; I've been traveling for several weeks.

We don't have specific, announced plans for an accessibility API for JavaME from Sun.  We will be doing research in this area, under the AEGIS grant (see http://www.aegis-project.eu/), and AEGIS grant partner RIM has already released an initial accessibility API for their Java-based Blackberry, which you can see at http://na.blackberry.com/eng/deliverables/6022/net/rim/device/api/ui/accessibility/package-summary.html

Hello Peter, hello list,

is there an estimation for when an accessibility API is planned for JavaME?

Lulu-Ann

Lulu-Ann,

At this time there isn't a general Java Micro Edition "accessibility
API", which is the way a screen reader like Orca would get the
information it needs from a JavaME app in order to make it accessible to
blind folks.

Hello list,

does Orca run und mobile devices and is it able to read from Java

programs? (J2ME)

Or is there another non commercial screen reader?

I want to code a non graphics Java navigation software using free

geodata.
