While I'm not disgusted by it, I haven't had any real accessibility
nightmares with the panel that others seem to have had, I'd agree it
would be confusing even for sighted users. In general, changing tasks
like that should not be done unless there's a good reason, and should
not be confined to a panel applet in any case. Panel applets can crash
and, if it does go down, for all intents and purposes there's no quick
and easy way to shut down via the GUI without reloading the applet. I
don't find it a huge accessibility concern, as I've been able to use
the panel fine and that applet is one of the few with an accessible
label, , but I don't like it for these other reasons.

Hi
You're not crazy. They seem to have moved this to the "switch users
or
shutdown" panel applet. Even in Jaunty this is a recent change,
only a
few days old. I thought the same thing when my shutdown menu
disappeared, it's nice to know I'm not crazy :).
I will be reverting this for accessibility installs. I found this
out yesterday, and am totally disgusted by it. I don't even think it
makes sense for fully able users. I am sure many of them will get
confused/annoyed as well.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a
thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot
possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to
get at or repair.
