Re: [orca-list] am I crazy

Hello, I was reading up on the new changes in 9.04, and the thing that stuck out is they took control alt backspace out of the default installation, i'd consider control alt backspace a failsafe if things crash hard.

While I'm not disgusted by it, I haven't had any real accessibility nightmares with the panel that others seem to have had, I'd agree it would be confusing even for sighted users. In general, changing tasks like that should not be done unless there's a good reason, and should not be confined to a panel applet in any case. Panel applets can crash and, if it does go down, for all intents and purposes there's no quick and easy way to shut down via the GUI without reloading the applet. I don't find it a huge accessibility concern, as I've been able to use the panel fine and that applet is one of the few with an accessible label, , but I don't like it for these other reasons.

Hi
You're not crazy. They seem to have moved this to the "switch users or
shutdown" panel applet. Even in Jaunty this is a recent change, only a
few days old. I thought the same thing when my shutdown menu
disappeared, it's nice to know I'm not crazy :).

I will be reverting this for accessibility installs. I found this out yesterday, and am totally disgusted by it. I don't even think it makes sense for fully able users. I am sure many of them will get confused/annoyed as well.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.
