Darn. Sorry - the DISPLAY thing is a red herring. I just performed the following test on my Ubuntu Intrepid box:

1) Logged out of the desktop and made sure it was sitting at the login prompt. This is not a necessary step to run "orca --text-setup" -- I just did it to make sure I wasn't able to access the display.

2) Ran "orca --text-setup" from a virtual console.

I got the display warnings mentioned, but the setup actually ran. So, it looks like the Bonobo.GeneralError is the thing that's really the problem.

Which version of Orca are you using (orca --version).

I think your DISPLAY environment variable needs to be set (e.g., DISPLAY=:0). If it is set and you still get a stack trace, please post the trace so we can
