Re: [orca-list] Losses of Speech upon Exit

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is related to the same problem, but sometimes orca freezes when I close a conversation inside pidgin.
Even if I try to restart orca, nothing happens.
The interesting is that if I press the right button of the mouse, orca is alive again.
Thanks.

Thanks Steve! This looks like Orca didn't crash. Instead, I'd guess that something somewhere has hung in the AT-SPI infrastructure. Restarting Orca is usually a convenient way to "unhang" things, but the source of the hang might be somewhere else. So, next time, try killing the application you were just using (e.g., rhythmbox) and see if that wakes things up. In addition, turn debugging on in your ~/.orca/user-settings.py file, as documented at http://live.gnome.org/Orca/Debugging might yield some good information.

Thanks!

Willie, I just got another loss of speech while in rythmbox. I was in
a detail pane for a podcast episode when I hit the escape key to get
out of it. I went over to a vertial console running speakup and
captured the following script, doing the command you suggested below.
The listing looks a bit funny to me so I'll paste in the whole thing;
perhaps you can interpret further. In the meantime, I'm going to try
restarting Orca if possible.

Hi Steve:

This is a bummer. Some instability seems to have been introduced
somewhere and it's a hard one to track down. Do you also notice any
other error dialogs appearing, such as one saying something about Bonobo
crashing? In addition, when this happens, please run the following
command from a virtual console to see if the desired processes are still
running:

ps -elf | egrep "orca|at-spi|bonobo|synth|brltty"

Thanks!

This might have been hinted to recently but not sure. On occasion,
I've been losing speech at what seems like random points. Most often
is when I exit a program like Nautilus. I just got this when I
pressed Ctrl-W to close an icon view of Nautilus. I've also gotten
these speech losses when closing a dialog. Unfortunately it isn't
consistant so cannot provide exact instructions to duplicate the
problem every time.

I'm using SVN pulls of Orca from about a week ago under a Debian Lenny
Testing system.
