I wish to thank Willie Walker and Peter Korn for a most informative review of
the history that gave rise to the accessibility APIs and screen reading
technologies that we have today.

Although I never had a chance to use Outspoken, I remember reading in 1989 or
thereabouts that Outspoken for Macintosh had received favourable reviews from
users, and that it was gaining an excellent reputation.

The cooperation within the community surrounding ATSPI and Orca, including all
of the applications (Gnome, OO.O, Mozilla, Java, etc.) that support it
directly or indirectly, is very encouraging. As long as both users and
developers are satisfied that the cooperation is yielding benefits, that the
quality of access is improving and that the number of bugs in the relevant
components is on the decline, then I think we're in a good position to make
this the most broadly accessible software environment available.
