[orca-list] Question about Global Key Assignment

Is it possible to assign shortcut or hotkeys globally like you can
sometimes with some MS Windows applications? I'm thinking particularly
of assigning some of the special media keys on my keyboard to control
movement in a media player but have access to those keys no matter
which app is in focus. This is extremely easy to do with Foobar 2000
in Windows but I can't tell if there is a way to do this with any
programs in gnome.

Also on a similar note, at the top of the list of key assignable to
applications, there are several items that begin with gs_something;
they point currently to media functions like play, pause, skip back,
skip forward... What does these things actually hook up to? Is there
any way to link those up to media key/buttons on a keyboard?

Thanks and sorry for off topic question.
