Hi David:

For various reasons, mostly which are historical and not understood very 
well, the NumLock key is a very toxic key for X Windows in general.  If 
it were taken out back and put out of its misery, I would not complain.

We have a couple related bugs on this subject, which I hope we can get 
to early on in the GNOME 2.24 release cycle:
