What is the advantage or disadvantage of running gdm? Is this a "window
manager"? What exactly does it do?
GDM has been programmed to support login accessibility via gestures such
as Ctrl-s to start speech. I may be wrong, but I don't believe you can
start gnome with a different Window Manager, and without Gnome, you have
no a11y.
Sorry for my ignorance, but X startup has always been a mystery to me. Any
docs that make this clear?
Don't know if it will make things clear, of course, but there is a man
page.
