Hey Steve. All those undefined references are to glib. Is the path to
glib in an odd location?
No, I will show a clipping from my ldconfig -v shortly. When I
looked at the full listing of 'ldconfig -v', it appears to be in
/usr/lib as I would expect. Heck, the current binaries of gnome all
seem to work.
Here is what 'ldconfig -v |grep glib-' yields.

root lnx3:~# ldconfig -v |grep glib-
libglib-2.0.so.0 -> libglib-2.0.so.0.1400.4
libdbus-glib-1.so.2 -> libdbus-glib-1.so.2.1.0
libglib-1.2.so.0 -> libglib.so
root lnx3:~# exit
