Yes, that was an excellent nudge in the right direction.  I figured
out my problem.  It seems that when Dropline was installed, they
updated the version of libglib-2.... but did not update the old
symbolic link 

Specifically, libglib-2.0.so pointed to an older libglib which comes
with the base ELF libraries for Slackware but Dropline did not update
this link to point to the newer ones they provided.  They had a
libglib-2.0.so.0 which pointed to the right place but not the former.
I rebuilt the sym link to point to libglib-2.0.so.0 and both atk and
at-spi built cleanly.

So now I can finally move on to updating Orca.  I'm putting all these
in /usr instead of /usr/local; hopefully I won't have to fall back or
any of that.:)

Thanks for helping and sorry for bugging everyone else on this list
with all the noise.  It just feels good to get beyond the starting
gate if ya know what I mean.
