It turns out these issues are a Firefox bug.  I have just filed it here:

I haven't triaged this part yet, however we have recently completely
revamped our line navigation code for performance purposes.  While I
can't yet be certain, my money is on this bug being ours and quite
possibly the result of the new navigation code.  Dealing with stuckage
is next on my agenda.  Hopefully between the two teams, we'll get this
resolved quickly.
