Re: [orca-list] virtual Carret is not stored in Minefield when returning from another window

Hi Steve:

The problem with help is that the application that provides it, yelp, is using the old Gecko rendering engine which is not very accessible. We need to get yelp migrated to the new Gecko engine that's used by Firefox 3. This won't happen until Firefox 3.0 is released along with the new Gecko engine, however, because the yelp folks cannot depend upon unreleased software.

Help in Firefox 3 itself, however, should work because I believe it's providing its own help and not relying upon yelp.

We're tracking the problems here:

Hope this helps,

Will

I just installed firefox from 01/27/2008 and yes, the focus problem
goes away. But alas, the help is hopelessly broken. Well almost
hopelessly:). I tried the help (F1) from the terminal and from the
file browser and both help files gave me problems. In all cases, the
flat review keys don't speak at all. Some times after switching
screens with another web page like paypal or something, I can
sometimes get the help page to work. But I think in all cases, the
flat review keys don't work at all during the help screens. Well, I
just alt tabbed over to firefox with a help window showing and I got
the flat review keys to speak but every time I tried to review
current line, it always reads the top level menu bar.

So you were looking for an example of where the flat review keys don't
work properly, just go to your nearest help panel, use the ayer script
that was furnished on the list here and open it up. You will see the
problems I'm having as well as the flat keys staying at the top of the
screen. I'm pretty sure you can go and read down line by line but it
obviously is not syncing with the cursor. Also before I forget, much
of this help problem is pressing the regular up and down arrow keys
yields silence.

HTH.

P>S> I haven't heard much on the help deal here. Does anyone use
online help much? I need it heavily in order to learn my way around
this new environment.

Hey Steve. Have you tried the 1/27 version of Firefox? I know the focus event is good in that version. I am curious to know if it fixes your problem. I just checked the latest version of Firefox and the focus event problem is still there. I had hoped that would be fixed by now but it is not.
