Re: [orca-list] Cepstral Voices giving out

I've generally had pretty good luck using Cepstral Callie on my Debian
box which uses ALSA. When I have lost speech, I didn't think it was
Cepstral related. I also can't remember which version my Cepstral
stuff is either. I've had them around for over a year now but only
messed with gnome since January of this year.

Hi,

Sadly, Will Walker told me that fixing this bug is a low priority at the moment. If I get the time over
the next week or so, I'll try to track it down, but that seems unlikely. However, if you have the time and
desire, you can try to track the problem down and let Will know what you find.

Otherwise, I can still use Cepstral Callie on my desktop--the speech hangs are infrequent. On my laptop,
however, the speech hang happens far too frequently to deal with, so I'm using espeak instead. I think your
mileage will vary depending on your machine.

Good luck,

This is exactly what's happening, when I'm trying to edit things especially.

  Hi,

There is a bug somewhere in gnome speech related to Cepstral voices. Here is the bug report:

  http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=553327

Basically, for me it occurs most often when I'm moving by character using the cursor keys, but it can
happen in other contexts. Generally, waiting for about 30 seconds, then pressing a cursor key will allow
you to hear speech to start again.

If this isn't your problem, you'll need to supply more details about exactly what causes the problem to
occur.

  Good luck,

  dave

    Hello, all,
I have put the Cepstral Amy voice on my laptop that's running Vibuntu 1.0, and it works great for a
bit, but then gives out, forcing me to quit and restart Orca. Can anyone suggest what might be causing
this? I'm using Cepstral version 5.0, and the voice is licensed. If I can fix this problem I'm seriously
considering getting 1 or 2 other voices for variety, but don't want to if I'm going to be having this
problem all the time.

    Thanks,
    Terrence
