That's why I just put my observations out there to see what others
might have noticed.  Yes, good point about the speech dispatcher
configuration; that might help me get the punct levels to seem more
consistent.  I hadn't realized the punctuation levels in Orca only
really controled gnome-speech.

My main observations were with flat review; I did not spend a lot of
time in other situations while comparing these differences.

Oh, someone asked about the sound card I use, this was all happening
with a SB Live card.  I had no problems with Totem movie player
playing ogg and mp3 files while I was using gnome-speech with
Cepstral.  It seemed like the crackly breakups began this morning
after I rebooted back from MS windows.  I figured a lot of files had
to be read or loaded for the first time after booting and that perhaps
was causing some of my problems.  I'd be willing to bet that OSS
doesn't do as well while other disk operations are going on as well as
might ALSA but that's just conjecture on my part.
