Subject: Resp.: Resp.: [orca-list] Successfully using gnome and orca

Hello,
I still think that the guys on x project and speackupmodified.org should
know this and provide a int on what needs to be done to fix it.
I myself was planning to use a runlevel different than five, because I will
most likely use the console only. I don't have why to wait all the gui
startup everytime I boot my machine only because startx isn't working as it
was expected to.
Anyways I am about to install moonshine and I myself will report this issue
if I get it as soon as I have all it installed.
Marlon

Thanks, Juan. Glad to hear you've got things working.

I think one should always use runlevel 5. I doubt anyone is even
debugging startx. Certainly, most users would be in runlevel 5, so
that's where all the attention goes.

Doesn't help me on my one trouble machine, though! <grin>

I have an update on this problem.

I thought to see what would happen if I changed my run level to 5,
to boot directly into the gui. I did this, and it works
beautifully. Orca runs great, and gnome works great to.

So, I don't know what this means.

Thanks.

Hello,
trying to report this issue to the speakupmodified project would be
a good idea. Also it would help asking on a x project list could help.
Reading the logs I suspect that some component pre installed is
broken, as the x server is aparentely having trouble to go up. Or
perhaps it is a missing configuration. Are you trying to start x as
root?
Marlon

2007/7/25, Juan Hernandez <juan netplus1 com>:
Well.

1. I fully installed fc7 from the dvd provided off the
speakupmodified website 2. I installed my synth, TTSynth 3. I
did orca -t to configure orca via console, and it successfully
found my synth, and went through the prompts for me.

I then tried to launch x and gnome, I typed at my prompt xinit

And I get nothing. I get the following output, depending on when
I use startx or xinit I get different outputs.

Below are is my script session.

Thx.

Have you guys had any success with this?

How far have you gotten on the installation? The first step is to
get Gnome running. That should be an easy install with FC7. We'll
guide you from there.
