Re: [orca-list] Orca on different platforms, how does accessibility compare

I am currently using orca on ubuntu 7.04, but I just wondered if it
works better say on Sun Salaris, freebsd, etc. If it really only depends
on the version of gnome being used, then ubuntu 7.04 is probably as good
as anything (considering I have it all working fine).

Hi Michael:

Is Orca sufficiently separate from the underlying OS that there is
little difference, or is gnome slightly different on the different
platforms, leading to differences with Orca?

The goal is that Orca is sufficiently separate from the underlying OS.
Having said that, Orca is still somewhat tied to GNOME, and we keep
working on the bleeding edge. So...Orca runs best on GNOME 2.18 and
better at the moment. As a result, you're best bet is to pick a
distribution that has GNOME 2.18 or better.

Hope this helps,
