Orca Re: 0.2.4 compiler log error

I might be able to help. I ran into that same problem. Unfortunately,
being new I didn't think anyone else would run into it so I didn't write
down what fixed it. However, Ubuntu is missing a few different C
packages by default. You may be missing one of the compiler packages
needed. Just the single gcc 4.0 package isn't enough I don't think. I
found there were a few similar but different packages like cpp as well
that might also be needed. Perhaps someone with more experience can
figure out which package you're missing. But I also was able to
configure and make but then it wouldn't make install for me with that
same error. As a side note, I've found Ubuntu 6 to be more stable and
versatile and work better with Orca than 5 if that's an option for you.

Hi,
I just installed Ubuntu 5.10 on my laptop and I can't seem to get
orca to install. it keeps complaining the compiler will not compile.

here are the commands I typed:

cd /home/churst/Desktop/orca
./configure prefix=/usr
error
:error:C compiler cannot create executable
See config.log for mre details

Here are the things that it failed to check that were No.

checking for gawk ... no
Checking whether makesets $(MAKE) ... no
checking whether to enable maintainer - specific portions of
makefiles ... no
Checking for style of include used by make ... none
checking for C compiler default output filename ... configure:error:C
compiler can not create executables

what is going on here and what do i need to install to get orca to
compile correctly?
