I don't know about that. I followed Willie Walker's directions at
live.gnome.org/orca

and I didn't have any problems getting orca going from sources. Since Iwanted dectalk I did compile gnome-speech as well so that may havehelped, but after the build I did orca and it came up fine with Dectalk.
