Doing a grep in dmesg, shows as ::
[ajay localhost]$ dmesg | grep 'Ethernet driver'
r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded
Also, I assume you meant that the packets being dropped is the bug, and not the "packets being allowed fine after reverting MAC address" :-PChanging the MAC address should be possible on Ethernet. Or you can't

But you didn't even tell us if this was an ethernet interface....Ahh, sorry for being unclear before --- it is a vanilla ethernet "eth0" interface.
