I use channel 11, but I don't know if that helps.
I've also noticed things in the log that seem hardware related:
Jul 10 16:15:40 localhost NetworkManager: <information>^IDeactivating device ath0.
Jul 10 16:15:40 localhost dhclient: There is already a pid file /var/run/dhclient.ath0.pid with pid 7000
Jul 10 16:15:40 localhost dhclient: killed old client process, removed PID file
Jul 10 16:15:40 localhost dhclient: wifi0: unknown hardware address type 801
Jul 10 16:15:40 localhost dhclient: wifi0: unknown hardware address type 801
Jul 10 16:15:41 localhost dhclient: DHCPRELEASE on ath0 to 192.168.1.1 port 67
I'm sorry I gave the impression that I think NM is the problem. If this is not appropriate for the nm list I'll gladly move it elsewhere. But I figured I'd stand a better chance
in a wifi related list than general help.
I run Ubuntu (feisty) so chkconfig is a little hard to obtain. Should I use something else like sysv-rc-conf? What exactly should I do with it?
