We'd established it was Ubuntu, but not which version.

I'm running Ubuntu 6.10, with network-manager 0.6.3-2ubuntu6 and the
dbus code is in there.

Are you sure you're looking at the right dhclient-script, Joan?  My
system has one in /etc/dhclient-script and a newer one in
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient-script.
