problems with Trash

Hi
I'm running 2.0.4 and have the following problems
1) No Trash desktop icon
2) When I delete files, the get moved to a directory
.Trash in my home directory. But when I tell
nautilus Go->Trash, the deleted items are not shown
3) The menu item File->Empty Trash is greyed out.
How can I recover?
