I hate to to get into a flame fest about this issue, but here is my
perspective.  I think its unfair to claim Eazel doesn't care about how
good things look by default.  All the Eazel hackers that I work with
everyday have nothing but the highest regard for what looks good and is
usable by default.  If anything we are giving users more choice about
what their environment looks like.  And yes, we've done a lot of work to
make sure we respect the "GNOME look."   And we even have more work
scheduled to that effect.

Also, the PR3 default theme and the GNOME theme are but TWO themes from
a list.  I presume third parties will develop their own themes.

Further, the distributors of Nautilus have the final word what defaults
are.  For a GNOME distributor that values the sacredness of the "GNOME
look" above all else, they can trivially make that change to the bits
they release with one line of code.

Like I said before to address your (and David Bishop's) specific
concerns about the naming of the preferences, its something we will fix
for 1.0.

One concrete thing you can do to help in a constructive way is to TRY
nautilus and file bugs about specific violations of the "GNOME look."  
A lot of these problems (fixed between PR2 and PR3) were a result of a
users filing bugs.
