Hey there,
I'm not sure if I should be giving advice, especially since I'm a
candidate now but ...
Sooo: the nominations for the elections are closed and we have enough
candidates. This is a Good Thing.
Yes, absolutely excellent ;)
I looked at every nomination. It seems we have 22 candidates. There are
two invalid nominations (Gegl and Rhett Creighton are not members of the
GNOME Foundation). And it seems there is a third invalid nomination.
This one is quite embarrasing: it's Jim Gettys' nomination. It seems he
has not renewed his membership. Could someone confirm this ?
The only invalid nomination to my mind is Gegl. I don't think there is
any requirement for a non-foundation member not to be able to go for the
board. Membership allows you to vote, it doesn't say that you can't go
for the board...unless I've mis-read somewhere? I think there have been
a couple of people who ran [and got elected] previously. This would
count Jim Gettys in, along with Rhett. I guess I could be biased as I
would like to see Jim on next years board though ;)
So, what's next ?
Indeed...best to follow the calendar ;)
I'm preparing the official list of candidates and asking some candidates
for some informations they didn't give (mostly summaries and
affiliations). This will be ready really soon (tomorrow evening, if
everything goes well).
Super.
One other thing that should be quickly is choosing the questions we'll
send to the candidates. After some thoughts, I'm not sure we should send
the 10 same questions that were sent last year because some of the
candidates already were candidate last year and already answered these
questions. However, these 10 questions are 10 good questions and it's
not easy to find questions like those. As for me, I'd like to see a
question about the membership guidelines. Something like 'What do you
think of the new membership guidelines?'. Not sure if it is a good idea,
though.
Yes, I must admit that I was half planning to write the answers to the
questions...and then compare afterwards with my answers that I gave last
year - just to see how things had changed in my mind. I suspect a lot of
people will draw on last years answeres - since, they also seemed to
draw on last years candidacy statement too ;)
I'm not sure if the membership guidelines is suitable...may be a little
bit biased....and especially since the subject is supposed to be
finalized...[shrug]
A third TODO thing is processing the remaining applications before
November 25th (when the ballots go out). This should be done quite
easily.
ROCK
The last thing to do is preparing the technical stuff for the ballots.
Who's interested in managing this? I can do it (and I'm okay to do it),
but if there is someone else who wants to do it, that's not a problem :)
Can't be me, but I'm pretty interested in all of that...Too bad I missed
out on it last time :(
Okay, I'm going to take myself off this list now - I feel that I should
now :)
Thanks for being so great,
You guys are beginning to ROCK!
Glynn ;)
