Meld with LaTeX files

I think it would be a nice feature of Meld if it could ignore carriage-returns
and line-feeds in files.  This is advantageous for comparing latex files since
usually you want to compare on a word-by-word basis, and not necessarily
line-by-line.  I tried adding a text filter to do this, but it seems not to be
possible. (?)  Does anyone else use Meld for comparing TeX files?
