jep, essentially this would introduce another #ifdef area in 
vfs.h with a bunch of inlines/macros that bridge to mvfs.
that should be done after merging the vfs-fixups.

i dont think thats a blocker for the mvfs-branch (git rebase 
should do the trick ;-p).

It's broken at the moment (global.h -> vfs.h include problem) - 
perhaps we should merge #1931 first.
